Social communication and tourism: its contribution to professional training

Abstract
The present investigation addressed professional training as the essence of Cuban Higher Education, in the preparation of the new generations that assume the tasks of a political, economic and cultural nature that contribute to the advancement of the country. As part of this training, there is the diploma work, an academic exercise that allows the development of skills and values in students. In this sense, the objective of the research was oriented to identify the skills and values that are promoted from the diploma works in the Social Communication and Tourism Career. The methods and techniques used were the bibliographic and documentary search and the content analysis. The first was used to specify some theoretical foundations on professional training, aspects related to the role of education in the Cuban context are highlighted, as well as what is expressed in this regard in the 2030 Agenda. The review was extended to the Study Plan E of both university specialties. A content analysis was applied to the theses of the years 2020 and 2021, which revealed that, through these diploma works, the following skills are promoted, among others: mastery of language specificities, apprehension of certain processes in the digital field and the evaluation of certain tourist activities, as well as honesty, responsibility and industriousness, values that constitute premises for a successful future of society in its various spheres.
