Abstract

Background: Lyme disease, an emerging zoonosis, represents a growing concern for both animal and human health. Method: The documentary research reviews the impact of Lyme disease in canines and explores its relationship with public health, addressing symptoms, diagnostic methods and treatment options in dogs, as well as the mechanisms of zoonotic transmission that link canines to infection in humans. Results: Results of recent epidemiological studies are presented, highlighting the increase in the prevalence of the disease in different regions of the world, together with advances in diagnosis, treatment and prevention strategies. Conclusions: The research underscores the need for continued surveillance and robust preventive measures to mitigate the risks associated with this disease. Finally, recommendations are offered for veterinarians, pet owners and health authorities, focused on the prevention and control of Lyme disease.
