Proposal of Tourism Development Plan for the Trinidad destination for the period 2023-2027

Abstract

Tourism development plans are valuable tools for destinations, since they are elaborated every certain period of time, in order to renew strategies in the face of changing situations. Trinidad, a colonial and historic city in Cuba, is a mature tourist destination, with many years of experience in receiving and welcoming large numbers of tourists, however, this does not exempt it from difficulties to be overcome. Although the existing problems do not reflect signs of stagnation, if they are not adequately addressed, they could lead the destination to a phase of stagnation in the medium term. Precisely, the present research arose from the need to consider new strategies and actions to ensure a more environmentally friendly tourism and to help the destination to remain, in the medium term, in a consolidation phase. Therefore, the general objective was to design a Tourism Development Plan for the Trinidad destination for the period 2023-2027. A series of methods, techniques and methodological tools were used, such as: documentary review, analysis and synthesis, historical-logical analysis, survey, brainstorming, among others. The study resulted in the generation of a coherent and systematic plan, which includes four strategies with their corresponding actions, thus establishing the strategic bases that will guide the development process by taking advantage of the potential of the destination.
